It feels like June was yesterday and now we're preparing for Back to School
and other fall activities. In this month's newsletter, you'll hear an
update on the IFC Meeting Room Working Group, the background on ALA's
partnership with Constance Wu, deadlines related to ALA Annual, and more!

With all of the conversations surrounding the latest interpretation of the
Bill of Rights, ALA has decided to open up the conversation to all members.
The Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC) has created a *google document*

in which everyone can provide their feedback on the current interpretation
and provide suggestions on language. We're excited that Jody Gray (Director
of ODLOS), Martin Garner (ODLOS Advisory Chair), and Shauntee Burns-Simpson
(Committee on Diversity Chair, BCALA President-Elect) will be involved
throughout the process to ensure that marginalized voices are represented.
We encourage you to make your voice heard and comment on the document. The
deadline for comments is August 24.

This month, the American Library Association revealed its partnership
with *Constance
Wu to promote libraries*

While this was an exciting collaboration, ALA Communications and Marketing
Office and ODLOS made sure to hear from CALA and APALA regarding their
thoughts on promoting *Crazy Rich Asians*. We received ample feedback from
both affiliates and are very pleased with the result. We want to extend our
thanks again to these affiliate groups for carefully reviewing the PSAs and
other resources.

The* I Love My Librarian Award* encourages library users to recognize the
accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college,
or university librarians. Each year, 10 librarians are selected. Each
librarian receives a $5,000 cash award, a plaque, and a travel stipend to
attend the awards ceremony and reception in New York City, hosted by
Carnegie Corporation of New York.

Nominations for the 2018 I Love My Librarian Award are open through October
1. Winners will be announced in early December. You can find more

ALSC announces new Equity Fellowship! Through the ALSC Equity Fellowship
program, ALSC affirms its commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion by
engaging new generations of racially and ethnically diverse library
professionals.

Five ALSC fellowships will be awarded to American Indian/Alaska
Native/First Nations, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx,
Middle Eastern, and/or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander individuals
who commit to service within ALSC and demonstrate a capacity for future
leadership. Fellowship recipients will receive funding for two-year ALSC
and ALA memberships and one year of conference registrations and travel
stipends for ALA Midwinter and ALA Annual. Fellowship recipients will also
receive mentorship from members of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

The 11th National Conference of African American Librarians will be held
August 5-9, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Under the
theme, "Sankofa Experience: Inspired by Our Past, Igniting Our Future,"
librarians will gather for five days of exciting programming.
