An Infopeople 4-week online course, January 9 - February 5, 2018

Would you like to learn about new resources for designing and evaluating your library programs for youth? Developmentally appropriate programming identifies the program spaces, formats, content, and staffing models that equip libraries to offer high-impact programs designed precisely for the developmental levels of their intended audiences. The result is programming that best supports social/emotional development and achievement of developmental milestones.

At the end of this 4-week online course learners will:


  *   Be able to apply concepts of universal design and connected learning to existing programs.
  *   Evaluate existing programs for developmental appropriateness and adapt program components to effectively reach multiple ages.
  *   Have access to a rubric for developmentally appropriate programming as well as a suite of go-to resources for developing and evaluating high-quality, age-appropriate programs for their young library users.

An Infopeople online course, January 23, 2018 to February 19, 2018

This 4-week course will provide an overview of library cataloging and classification and prepare you to do copy cataloging. You will gain knowledge of basic cataloging rules and tools, commonly used controlled vocabularies, the Dewey Decimal Classification system, and MARC21 format. Applying this knowledge, you will be able to decode MARC bibliographic records and perform basic copy cataloging. Experienced instructor Xiaoli Li will help you learn to...


*         Feel comfortable with the basics of cataloging, classification and MARC records

*         Copy catalog items in a variety of formats

*         Become familiar with cataloging practices, rules and tools

Many of us are familiar with the practice of "active listening."  This webinar will help facilitators and discussion leaders further develop their skills to listen beneath the surface of what's being said. You will receive instruction in advanced facilitation concepts supported by examples from fellow librarians. Skill in multi-dimensional listening is particularly relevant in today's society when people can be extra sensitive to identity and position. Learn how to help the entire group listen together more skillfully for clues to where there might be common ground while respecting differences that arise. Facilitating Constructive Contributions:  Dealing with Difficult Behaviors; Helping People Share from a Better Place<https://infopeople.org/civicrm/event/info?id=741&reset=1>



Basic facilitation skills involve keeping a group on topic and on time.  But what happens when a participant needs special attention? This webinar will identify common types of disruptive behavior and share multiple methods for facilitators to keep the conversation constructive.  We'll discuss what kinds of factors lead caring people to become the "difficult" ones to better understand which strategy to use when. We'll also review how to create the conditions that reduce the likelihood of difficult of behaviors in the first place.  Bring questions from your own challenging facilitation moments for the extended question and answer session.
