Title: A Vision for Decentralized Data Preservation Across a Network of Libraries and Trusted Institutions
Description: Dr. Danielle Robinson will reprise her Online NW keynote and facilitate a discussion with library and research faculty about data preservation workflows and how a decentralized model would work in their practice.
Bio: Dr. Danielle Robinson is an open science advocate who believes in the power of inclusive open communities. She serves as Co-Executive Director at Code for Science & Society where she works to support open source software projects including the Dat project, Stencila, and ScienceFair. Her experiences as a researcher motivated her to apply the philosophy of open source software development to scientific research to improve efficiency and research reproducibility — and to work for an inclusive future for science and scholarship. Dr. Robinson was a 2016-2017 Mozilla Fellow for Science, received my PhD in Neuroscience from Oregon Health and Science University in 2017, and was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship in 2012. Her current work includes exploring how Dat-based p2p infrastructure can improve data preservation, research collaboration, and public access to research data. Work on a pilot is now underway, announced on the Dat Project Blog<https://blog.datproject.org/2018/06/05/cdl-ia-dat-pilot/> as well as on California Digital Library’s blog<http://uc3.cdlib.org/2018/06/06/internet-archive-code-for-science-and-society-and-california-digital-library-to-partner-on-a-data-sharing-and-preservation-pilot-project/> and the Internet Archive’s blog<https://blog.archive.org/2018/06/05/internet-archive-code-for-science-and-society-and-california-digital-library-to-partner-on-a-data-sharing-and-preservation-pilot-project/>.
