Please read on for the latest updates and webinars from WebJunction. Of interest to many of you will be the three part webinar series over the next six months on evaluating and sharing your libraries impact. These webinars are aimed at public, academic, and research library staff who:


*         have never worked with data before,

  *   have some experience but need a refresher, or
  *   would like to learn how to best leverage assessment data to benefit their library.

New Articles


  *   New National Study Reveals Voter Perceptions in Libraries<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/from-awareness-to-funding-2018.html>: The Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association, and the ALA Office for Library Advocacy, in partnership with OCLC, released the report, From Awareness to Funding: Voter Perceptions and Support of Public Libraries in 2018. The research updates OCLC's seminal 2008 study that explored voter perceptions, use, and attitudes toward public libraries, librarians, and library funding.

  *   Librarians Who Wikipedia: Karen Kast, Eagle Mountain City Public Library:<https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/librarians-wikipedia-karen.html> When Karen Kast, from a small, rural library in Utah, took the Wikipedia + Libraries training program, she quickly connected the dots between Wikipedia and librarianship. Three months later, transformations for Kast and her library are underway. Kast is now organizing Wikipedia training sessions with her colleagues and helping patrons use Wikipedia effectively for research. We caught up with Kast to learn more.

Voter Perceptions of Libraries: Getting from Awareness to Funding in 2018

In 2008, OCLC published From Awareness to Funding: A Study of Library Support in America, a study of the awareness, attitudes, and underlying motivations among US voters for supporting library funding. The research dispelled long-held assumptions and provided eye-opening insights about who supports public library funding and for what reasons. A decade later, OCLC has partnered with PLA and the ALA Office for Library Advocacy to investigate perceptions and support among US voters today, and how they may have shifted in the intervening years. In this session, presenters will share key findings and analysis from summary report (due to be released in late March); provide new details on library super supporters and probable supporters in context with other library trends and research; and kickstart the discussion on how library leaders and advocates can act on these findings.
