ALA Petition Candidates & E-Petition Form

Petition Candidate forms are now open: If you are interested in running for
an ALA office and you were not selected by the Nomination Committee now is
the time to fill out a petition to run for an office. Members who are
interested in running by petition for President-elect or Treasurer may do
so by completing a petition form with the signatures of no fewer than 200
ALA current personal members. Individuals who wish to run for
Councilor-at-Large by petition, may do so by completing a petition form
with the signatures of no fewer than 25 ALA current personal members. In
addition to the petition itself, members must complete the Petition
Candidate Biographical Information Form. Once the petition process is
completed, petition candidates and nominated candidates are treated exactly
the same. They are not differentiated on the ballot because they are on
equal footing and are all viable candidates for these positions.

The period for filing petitions runs from the first Wednesday in October
through the first Wednesday in December. The petition form became available
today. This form must be filed with the ALA Executive Director no later
than December 5, 2018.

You will need to login to the ALA site and then fill out the two forms
listed below. Once you have a petition form submitted let your ALA friends
and colleagues know so that they may sign your petition. You will also find
that people you may not know will also sign your petition because some
people sign all of the petitions so that anyone interested in a position
will have the opportunity to appear on the ballot. This means that it is
fairly easy to get the number of signatures required.
