Your Money, Your Goals: Financial Education Tools for Libraries

Your Money, Your Goals<https://www.consumerfinance.gov/practitioner-resources/your-money-your-goals/> (YMYG) is a program for organizations that help people meet their financial goals by increasing their knowledge, skills, and resources.  It provides booklets and curriculum guides that can help to guide library patrons through basic financial planning activities including catching up on bills and managing credit card debt.

On January 10, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Pacific, the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection will host a webinar that will:

*         Introduce you to the Your Money, Your Goals<https://www.consumerfinance.gov/practitioner-resources/your-money-your-goals/> booklets and how to use them

*         Share best practices from librarians who are already using the booklets with consumers

*         Help you brainstorm with your colleagues about how you can start using these booklets in your library

The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection's collection of YMYG booklets are a colorful, compact resource your patrons can use to learn about money topics that are important to them. Each booklet includes a selection of simplified tools from the YMYG toolkit-all focused on a common financial topics.

Behind on bills? Start with one step.  Patrons can use this booklet to:

*         Create an action plan

*         Track and manage income and spending

*         Prioritize bills and expenses

*         Understand rights and responsibilities when contacted by debt collectors

Debt getting in your way? Get a handle on it. Patrons can use this booklet to:

*         Get a full picture of existing debt

*         Order a credit report

*         Prioritize debts and set repayment goals

*         Plan how to avoid additional debt

Want credit to work for you? Start with these steps.  Patrons can use this booklet to:

*         Get a free copy of their credit report

*         Review their credit report and dispute any errors

*         Make a plan to improve their credit score

*         Weigh the benefits, costs, and risks of using credit
