Dear Library folks, I'm blatantly copying and pasting Jennifer Maurer's
words (see below) but I would also urge if any of you are able to attend
the following listening sessions to promote school libraries and certified
school librarians as part of these sharing sessions, please do so! Student
success is based on the support they receive from both teachers and
classified staff and the success of students should be considered as
critical when hiring full time professional certified librarians for school
libraries. It should be a requirement to hire media specialists, not the
first thing cut from the budget.


Thanks to those of you who represented school libraries at Joint Committee
on Student Success meetings in the spring. Three more meetings remain, and
one is next week on the 13th in Redmond. Below you will find details about
the purpose of the meetings and how to participate. This could be a good
opportunity to share your priorities or concerns about Oregon K-12
education.

experience speaking at the meetings and offered tips. If you cannot find
the emails, check the OASL listserv archive (OASL website

to get a spot on the agenda, be prepared to make a case in 2 minutes, it’s
not scary, and bring support.
