Dear Colleagues,
As you may know, Portland Community College annually recognizes the
anniversary of the passing of Executive Order 9066, which enabled the
forced detention and imprisonment of over one hundred thousand Japanese
American citizens during World War II. Most of those imprisoned were from
the West Coast--many from the Pacific Northwest.

While the actual remembrance date is February 19th, PCC will be holding our
remembrance event on February 18th (since President Mitsui is the invited
keynote speaker in Seattle on the 19th).

On February 18th at 3:00 pm in the Sylvania Campus Performing Arts
Center, we will be screening the short film, "And Then They Came for Us
<https://www.thentheycamedoc.com/>". This film chronicles some of the
experiences of those interred and calls for us to be mindful of history
repeating itself in the context of current discourses of a Muslim registry,
travel bans, and forced detentions.

President Mitsui, along with special guests, will be leading a discussion
after the film (which runs approximately 45 minutes).

We anticipate that the discussion will last for about 30-minutes after the
film. The Office of the President, along with the Office of Equity and
Inclusion, will host a reception in the PAC lobby immediately following the
discussion.
