Position Summary
The Research and Instruction Librarian – Social Work and Social Sciences
provides research, instruction and reference services for the University’s
students and faculty as well as members of the general public; participates
in a dynamic course and program integrated instructional program, including
classroom and online instruction; consults and collaborates with scholars;
and coordinates information resources to support the instructional and
research needs of a diverse institution. Some evening and weekend
instruction is required. This position will serve as a liaison to the
School of Social Work and the Sociology department. Portland State
University non-tenure track faculty members contribute to faculty
governance activities within the Library and the University and engage in
research activities and professional service, as assigned.
This full-time, temporary, 12-month, non-tenure track, fixed term faculty
position reports to the Research & Instruction Services Manager. This
position is covering duties for a faculty member on sabbatical.
Responsibilities:

Supports the instructional and research needs of assigned units. Select
books and other information resources. Collaborates with assigned units in
assessing information needs and availability of information resources,
cultivating bridges for service and teaching; and provides research
consultations for faculty and students in these units. Includes work during
some evening and weekend hours.

Participates in the Library’s information literacy and general
instruction program, both face-to-face and online. Collaborates with
teaching faculty to develop discipline-appropriate instruction in liaison
areas. Shares in the development and delivery of course-related instruction
in the general education program.

Provides reference and information services for the University’s
students and faculty as well as members of the general public through work
at the reference desk and through various information and communications
technologies.

Develops physical and online learning objects and research guides.

Maintains awareness of scholarly communication and copyright issues in
general and within the assigned disciplines and contribute to advocacy
efforts. Keeps colleagues informed of current issues and developments in
the field related to the subject areas of responsibility.

Engages in scholarship and research activities, as assigned.

Contributes to faculty governance activities within the Library and the
University, as assigned.

Engages in professional service, as assigned.
-
Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the University and the
Library.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
-
ALA-accredited MLS
-
At least one year post MLS professional level experience in an academic,
research, or government agency library

Experience in at least two of these areas: serving as a liaison to
academic departments; teaching or training; or collection development
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with information literacy concepts
-
Experience developing online learning objects, tutorials, videos using
multimedia software and platforms
-
Degree in one of the assigned liaison areas
Compensation
The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $55,656. The
starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however, it will be
dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities of the
chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from
HR. PSU’s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare;
a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for
employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
