Want to keep your library on top of the latest trends and technologies that
are revolutionizing the way we live and learn, get new ideas for
implementation, and discuss the possibilities for the future? The School of
Information at San Jose State University <https://ischool.sjsu.edu/> is
excited to announce the third Library 2.019 mini-conference: "Emerging
Technology," which will be held on Wednesday, October 30, from 12:00 to 3:00
p.m. Pacific Time. This free, online and participatory conference
<https://www.library20.com/emergingtech> presents a unique opportunity to
showcase research, work, and thinking on emerging technology.
Learn what real libraries are doing right now with cutting-edge technologies
including Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence,
Machine Learning, Blockchain, Internet of Things, Drones, Personalization,
the Quantified Self; discover what they're planning next; and explore how
you can implement these ideas in your own organization. All library
professionals, employers, LIS students, and educators are invited to
participate in this web conference and are welcome to submit a presentation
proposal <https://www.library20.com/page/call-for-proposals> before the
deadline of September 30, 2019.
Once submitted, presentation proposals will be listed on the Library 2.0
website
<https://www.library20.com/forum/categories/library-2-019-emerging-technolog
y-accepted-submissions/listForCategory> with the opportunity to view,
comment and "like," giving members the opportunity to share ideas and make
connections before, during, and after the conference.
Upon a proposal's acceptance, a 30-minute presentation time will be
scheduled, and access will be granted to a mandatory training session that
will familiarize participants with using Blackboard Collaborate. Proposals
are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and the number of
sessions are limited, so prospective presenters are encouraged to submit
their proposals as soon as possible.
The conference's three-hour long format includes an opening keynote panel,
concurrent crowd-sourced sessions, and a closing address. Keynote addresses
will be given by: Associate Dean of Innovation and Resource Management at
SJSU's King Library, Christina Mune; Associate Professor in the
Undergraduate Library at the University of Illinois, Jim Hahn; Senior
Librarian at the Universal Academy in Texas, Ida Arlene Joiner; and Chief
Technology Officer and Associate Professor at the University of Rhode Island
Libraries, Bohyun Kim.
Participants are encouraged to use #library2019 and #libraryemergingtech on
their social media posts leading up to and during the event. View the call
for proposals, speaker biographies, and register to attend at EventBrite

The first of the Library 2.019 mini-conferences, "Shaping the Future of
Libraries with Instructional Design," was held online March 13, 2019, and
brought together the community of librarians, instructional designers and
other educators whose work happens at the intersection of instructional
design, educational technology, learning, and libraries. The second Library
2.019 mini-conference, "Open Data," was held online June 5, 2019, and
explored how librarians are using open data, teaching others about it, and
creating it.
The Library 2.0 Conference series began in 2011 as a way to facilitate
topical discussions among information professionals worldwide. Since then,
it has evolved from one annual two-day event to the current format of three
three-hour online, topic-specific mini-conferences a year, each of which
typically draws more than 5,000 attendee registrations.
Each conference session is recorded and made available for members on the
Library 2.0 network after the event under the Archives tab at Library 2.0
<https://www.library20.com/> and at the Library 2.0 YouTube channel
<https://www.youtube.com/user/library20conference> .
This event has been cross posted. Please feel free to share.
