POSITION: Circulation Tech (LT2) - Short-Term Position
LOCATION: Portland State University Library, Portland, OR

Located in Portland, Oregon, one of the nation's most livable cities,

Position Summary
Access Services supports the educational, research and service programs of
the University by facilitating user access to resources within and beyond
the Library. Access Services includes the following units: Circulation,
Reserves, Resource Sharing (Summit and Interlibrary Loan), the Off-site
shelving facility and Stacks Maintenance.
This position staffs the Circulation Desk, implements all library policies
and procedures, secures all monies at beginning and at the end of shifts,
and provides service to all patrons of the library. They resolve
non-routine problems and issues with staff and/or patrons ensuring all
Library policies and procedures are implemented in a timely fashion. They
coordinate the work of up to 15 student employees. They follow all opening
and closing procedures when scheduled, and participate in cash counting
operations. They complete other tasks such as processing local holds,
mailing books and technology equipment, and scanning book chapters to place
on course reserves.
PLEASE NOTE:

This position is funded through June 30, 2021. This position will be
terminated at that time.

This position requires onsite work including interacting with patrons at
our Circulation Desk. Masks/face coverings are required per PSU policy. A
plexiglass barrier is in place. At this time, the Circulation Desk and
first floor computer lab are open to currently enrolled students, in
addition to PSU faculty, and staff. A PSU ID card is required to enter the
building. All other library spaces are closed to promote social distancing.

Interviews will occur by phone and/or Zoom. There will be no onsite
interviews due to COVID-related precautions.

Required Qualifications
-
One of the following:
-
2 years of current library experience (within five years) OR ,
-
Associates degree (or equivalent 72 quarter hours or 48 semester
hours), and 1 year of current experience; OR ,
-
An equivalent combination of current library experience, training
and/or education in related fields;
-
Proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g.,
integrated library systems, database applications, institutional
repository; content management systems.

Critical skills: Tact, diplomacy, and communication skills at the
Circulation Desk, over the phone, and in email
-
Other skills: excellent keyboarding and filing
-
Abilities:
-
Ability to learn and interpret circulation databases. Must quickly
attain general familiarity with departmental computer operations.

Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse staff and user base.
-
Ability to organize time effectively and handle detailed materials
processing routines efficiently and accurately.
-
Ability to be self-motivated and willing to accept responsibility to
perform routine tasks without close supervision.
-
Ability to direct the work of student workers.
-
Ability to monitor and troubleshoot complex database and materials
handling transactions in a consortium environment.
-
General knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous work in Alma or Primo, or another ILS system.
Compensation
The starting wage for this position will be between $15.33/hr and
$15.81/hr. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however,
it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills, and abilities
of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval
from HR. PSU’s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid
healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition
rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public
Universities.
