Position Summary
The Reference and Instruction Librarian – Science and Engineering provides
reference and information services for the University’s students and
faculty as-well-as members of the general public; participates in a dynamic
instructional program, including classroom and online instruction; consults
and collaborates with scholars; and coordinates information resources to
support the instructional and research needs of a diverse institution. Some
evening and weekend reference duty and/or instruction is required. This
position will serve as a liaison to academic units including the Maseeh
College of Engineering and Computer Science, including Engineering
Technology Management; School of Architecture; the Maseeh Department of
Mathematics and Statistics; and Departments of Chemistry and Physics.
Portland State University non-tenure track faculty members contribute to
faculty governance activities within the Library and the University and
engage in research activities and professional service, as assigned.
This full-time, temporary, 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position
reports to the Research & Instruction Services Manager.
PLEASE NOTE:

This position is funded through June 30, 2021. This position will be
terminated at that time.

Onsite work during Spring Term 2021 may be possible, pending University
decision about on-campus vs. remote instruction.

Interviews will occur by phone and/or Zoom. There will be no onsite
interviews due to COVID-related precautions.
Duties:
-
Supports the instructional and research needs of liaison areas,
including research consultations for students and faculty.
-
Collaborates with teaching faculty to develop discipline-appropriate
instruction in liaison areas.
-
Assesses the information needs and availability of information resources
for liaison areas; selects books and other information resources as
appropriate.

Participates in the Library’s information literacy and general
instruction program via online platforms (synchronous and asynchronous) and
face-to-face (only if appropriate under the University’s COVID safety
guidelines).

Provides reference and information services for the University’s
students and faculty as well as members of the general public through the
Library’s reference delivery service and through various information and
communications technologies, and may include work during some evening and
weekend hours.

Develops learning objects, tutorials, subject guides, and course guides.

Maintains awareness of scholarly communication and copyright issues in
general and within the assigned disciplines and contributes to advocacy
efforts.

Keeps colleagues informed of current issues and developments in the
field related to the subject areas of responsibility.

Engage in scholarship and research activities, as assigned.

Contribute to faculty governance activities within the Library and the
University, as assigned.

Engage in professional service, as assigned.
-
Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the University and the
Library.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

ALA-accredited MLS.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Demonstrated experience working with marginalized and underrepresented
communities
-
Experience working in an academic, special, or public library
-
Experience providing research support services to faculty or other
researchers
-
Experience developing online learning objects such as tutorials, videos
using multimedia software and platforms
-
Demonstrated familiarity with information literacy concepts
-
Demonstrated familiarity with science, engineering, or business
disciplines, or degree in one of the assigned liaison areas
Compensation
The salary for this position will be $4,638.00/month. PSU’s excellent
benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous
retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee,
spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
