The Technical Services Round Table (TSRT) would like to congratulate Ellie Avis, Collection Development Librarian at Josephine Community Library District, for winning TSRT’s first scholarship. The scholarship panel were impressed with Ellie’s technical services interests and her ideas for being more involved with TSRT.
Here’ a little more about Ellie:
Ellie Avis is the collection development librarian for Josephine Community Library District in southern Oregon. After managing a rural branch for two years, she recently shifted to a technical services role. As a 2019 NTEN Digital Inclusion Fellow she brings an equity lens to the library’s digital services and as a recent graduate of the Library Freedom Institute and member of the OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee, she advocates for digital privacy and protection against surveillance in libraries. In her free time, Ellie serves on the Sugarloaf Community Association nonprofit board, helps run Sugarloaf Center, a local community center and all-ages DIY venue, and is on the advisory collective of the Siskiyou-Klamath Community Action Fund.
The Technical Services Round Table<https://www.olaweb.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=322>’s general objective is to provide a framework for information sharing, continuing education, and moral support for library workers currently engaged in technical services activities. Specifically, the group has three aims:
* To provide for the exchange of ideas on technical services and automation processes, systems, and policies.
* To provide a medium for the exploration of new ideas and technologies.
* To foster cooperation among all Oregon libraries in the areas of technical services and automation and to increase an awareness in the library community of the roles of technical and automation services.
The TSRT scholarship provides assistance for TSRT members to attend the OLA Annual Conference. Matching funds were provided by the State Library Professional Development Grant Program.
