Thanks for sharing, Mark.

Maybe this is also an appropriate time to start the conversation about the role of police in libraries. The Library Freedom Project recently put out this statement<https://medium.com/@libraryfreedom/its-not-enough-to-say-black-lives-matter-libraries-must-divest-from-the-police-2ab4adea58f1> calling for libraries to sever ties with police departments and seek alternative ways to resolve conflicts that are less likely to endanger our most vulnerable patrons. The statement also includes resources for training staff and connecting with the wider transformative justice movement.

I would love to see libraries in Oregon make a commitment to racial justice by signing on to this statement and endorsing a strategy of divesting from the police.

“Information helps you to see that you're not alone. That there's somebody in Mississippi and somebody in Tokyo who all have wept, who've all longed and lost, who've all been happy. So the library helps you to see, not only that you are not alone, but that you're not really any different from everyone else.”

Greetings everyone,

I’m pleased to share ALA’s "Statement Condemning Police Violence Against BIPOC, Protesters and
Journalists” just approved by the ALA Executive Board. The statement was drafted and approved by the Intellectual Freedom Committee (IFC) and endorsed by SRRT.
