[Libs-Or] 2020 Census form opens next week!

The U.S. Census will start sending postcards to households next week (March 12), so now is a good time to do a quick check and make sure your library is ready to answer questions and help promote participation.

Link to the online Census form and other resources on your web site and public workstations.


o   The State Library has created a web page with links to the basic information - How to Fill out The Census Form<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/census2020/form>. Having this information easily accessible on your public workstations will help both your staff and users get directly to the form and resources to help folks fill it out.



o   This ALA handout also provide links and helpful information in an easy to use format, Responding to the Census<http://www.ala.org/advocacy/sites/ala.org.advocacy/files/content/Census-tips-7-online-response-web-02-10-20.pdf>. It would be suitable to keep at library service desks for quick reference.

Do some promotion.


o   The OregonCounts2020 web site<https://www.oregon2020census.gov/spread-the-word> has pictograms and other ideas for social media promotion. Don't have the time to create posts? Follow hashtags - #OregonCounts2020<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23oregoncounts2020&src=typed_query> and #CountonLibraries<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23CountonLibraries> to find content to post or re-tweet. Using these tags in your own posts also helps with sharing content!



o   Print stickers to encourage participation - here are some examples from libraries in New York state<https://libguides.senylrc.org/Census2020/Resources>.
