Friday May, 1
11 a.m. PDT

Join the webinar: https://emporiastate.zoom.us/j/97379046328

The Oregon Library Association's 50th Anniversary Slideshow, produced by Richard C. Forcier of Western Oregon State College, was presented at the Oregon Library Association (OLA) conference held on March 29, 1990. The slideshow provides a unique look at the formation of OLA and the historical events surrounding its development. The 35mm slide reels and audiocassette tape recording was digitized by Ray Zill in 2018, with help from the State Library of Oregon and the Digital Production Lab at Willamette University. This presentation will comprise of a screening of the digitized slideshow, a discussion of the notes and history surrounding its development, and a look at how it was digitized.

Ray Zill is the Electronic Resources Librarian at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. Before moving to Washington, she worked as a cataloger at Oregon State University, as a digitization specialist at the State Library of Oregon, and was an active member of OLA. Originally from Omaha, Neb., Ray moved to the West Coast to pursue her dream job, be close to the ocean, and wander the forests. Ray specializes in metadata manipulation, digital preservation, and electronic resource management. During her free time, she loves to write and print via letterpress.

This presentation reflects on the experience of University of Oregon Library and Museum employees with regards to the Mellon Project, which aimed to bring Library and Museum resources together for faculty-led digital projects that helped present research to a wider audience. We hope these reflections will be useful for librarians and curators considering their own digital projects.

Tom Fischer is an MA student in the Asian Studies Program at the University of Oregon. His research focus is modern Chinese political history. Fischer has worked as a Graduate Employee for the Mellon team for the past two years.
