[cid:image004.jpg at 01D6AED6.C8678470]Greetings!
Here's this month's compilation of online learning opportunities!
Be sure to check out the State Library's Continuing Education LibGuide<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/> throughout the month as new webinars are added to the COVID-19<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/covid19> and EDI<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/edi> sections.
Online learning opportunities free to Oregon library staff, volunteers, and board members:
November 19, 9:00a PT - Ornery Teenagers: How to compassionately and effectively manage their problem behaviors
Presented by Ryan Dowd. Topics will include: Why teenagers do what they do. The psychology, sociology and anthropology of teenagers (and how you can use that knowledge to solve problems!). How to prevent conflicts with teenagers.
Registration is limited to staff, volunteers and board members of Oregon libraries (all types). If you're not currently subscribed to receive registration information via the "dowd-webinars" announcement list, you can sign up here<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Reg4HomlessnessTraining> (and select the second option). All Dowd webinars are recorded and made available through the Oregon's Homelessness Training academy<https://my.nicheacademy.com/homelessnessoregonlibraries> - if you don't already have an account, you can sign up here<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Reg4HomlessnessTraining> (select the first option).
November 4, 12:00p PT - Creating Fillable Forms in Word and Google
Hosted by TechTalk: Learn how to create a fillable form in Word for such things as a job application or a personal history form ... where you have multiple people completing it, but you don't need to compile all the data. Discover how you can develop a form that people can fill in easily ... in Google ... where you can also export the filled-in data. This is handy for event registrations so that you can analyze and compile the information for reporting. Registration is limited to staff, volunteers and board members of Oregon libraries (all types), use the username and password from the TechTalk Newsletter to register<https://www.tech-talk.com/webinars>.
November 18, 12:00p PT - New Pedagogy for Online Learning
Hosted by TechTalk: Discover best practices for teaching remotely. Learn communication and engagement techniques that increase attentiveness and knowledge retention. Using interviews with librarians & faculty liaisons, proprietary research and our in-house expertise, we've crafted a session that you'll enjoy and will help in a practical manner. Registration is limited to staff, volunteers and board members of Oregon libraries (all types), use the username and password from the TechTalk Newsletter to register<https://www.tech-talk.com/webinars>.
Upcoming Topic Talks from the State Library:
November 18, 12:00 pm (PT) - Library Innovation in COVID Times<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted#s-lib-ctab-24120710-1>
Oregon libraries of all types are responding to the challenge of service during COVID times with a wide array of innovative programs and services. Innovation may include new services, but can also mean offering traditional services in different ways.
State Library staff have been collecting stories and want to celebrate the great work happening in the Oregon library community.
In this session, Buzzy Nielsen and Arlene Weible will share examples and help participants connect with other library staff to learn more about how they may implement these ideas in their own community. Please come and share your own innovation stories or just listen and gain inspiration from your library colleagues across the state. (This session will be recorded for later viewing)
REGISTER NOW for one or both of these Topic Talks. Both are FREE to Oregon library staff, volunteers, Friends, foundation, and board members but registration is required<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/grantstopictalks> and each webinar will be limited to 100 people. Both sessions will be recorded for later viewing.
* December 2, 11:00 am - 11:30 am, Winning Library Grants: Beginner Tips in 30 Minutes, presented by Stephanie Gerding
* December 9, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, Winning Library Grants: An In-Depth Approach, presented by Stephanie Gerding

Recorded Topic Talks:
Virtual Programming Meetup<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/20981> - Have you been working to maintain connections to your community virtually? Would you like some ideas and strategies? This recorded session shows how your colleagues are taking virtual programming in a variety of directions. From digital rooms to recorded demos, staff are working to help community members feel connected to the library in tangible ways. Each panelist briefly shared about a virtual strategy their library is using and there and at the end of the session, audience members were able to share their own endeavors and ask questions. Greta Bergquist moderated.
Virtual Meet-up with Library Support & Development Services<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kNZIrS5AL0> - This is your chance to learn more about Library Support & Development Services and what we can do for your library. Hosted by the Library Support staff: Greta Bergquist, Ross Fuqua, Darci Hanning, Jennifer Mauer, Tamara Ottum, Arlene Weible, Ferol Weyand, and Program Manager, Buzzy Nielsen. Library Support provides services for all types of libraries in Oregon: academic, law, public, school, tribal, you name it! We will take a bit of time introducing you to our services and leave plenty of time for your questions. This session is useful to any library worker or supporter who's interested in learning more about the State Library's free services available to help make local libraries' lives easier.
