Buzzy: I attended the Board Meeting in Elgin yesterday and they need
help. Little background: Michele was hospitalized with Covid and she is a
longtime recoverer from it (PTSD and a one year anniversary of her house
burning down); and her part time assistant left on the day she left the
hospital, June 8th. I am helping her with conditions papers for the state
and they should be on their way this next week.

Michele needs help and I have decided to take her under my wing so to
speak. I am thinking that a job share as Director of the Elgin library
would be the ticket; so she could keep her job and her benefits and recover
that part timer. I am waiting to hear what the City did to her budget. She
did not have that information yesterday. She is behind in most everything
due to Covid but has worked there for 16 years and it is her job and her
heart. She needs help. I broached the subject of Leo as a possible place
to get come information/counseling of where to go for help. Her board has
a few go getters and I told them to get to the next budget hearing and
speak out for the library.

I would like to touch base with you this afternoon if you have the time. I
will be in Elgin to get the papers corrected she needs to send to Salem. I
can call you around 3 or so if that works for you. I am busy this
morning.

Thanks for ?listening? ,

Jennie Tucker

e-Learning Course on Privacy and Library Learning

Greetings everyone,

I'm passing this along for those in academic libraries that may be
interested in applying:

We are pleased to announce this call for expressions of interest for
participation in a free e-learning course on "Privacy and Library Learning
Analytics." The course will take place October 3-November 12, 2021. There
are 50 slots available and there is no fee to participate.

This course is an offering of the Prioritizing Privacy, a multi-faceted
continuing education program that will train academic library practitioners
to comprehensively address privacy and other related ethical implications
of learning analytics projects. Prioritizing Privacy is funded by an IMLS
National Leadership Grant and more information is available on the project
website (http://prioritizingprivacy.org/).

The six-week e-learning course will guide participants in exploring
learning analytics, privacy theory, privacy-by-design principles, and
research ethics. Participants will develop and present their own personal
"Privacy Sourcebook" to document their learning and guide their practice
after the course is complete. The course format is cohort-based and
asynchronous, offered in the learning management system Canvas and
structured by weekly deadlines and required readings, learning activities,
and online discussions. Additional information about the curriculum is
available on the project website (
https://prioritizingprivacy.org/curriculum/).

To apply for this free opportunity, fill out the application to participate
by September 8:
https://iu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_a4eOZeHy87dlUN0

Applicants will need to confirm that they:

  * Work in an academic library in the United States.
  * Have an interest in learning about academic libraries and learning
analytics.
  * Have an interest in learning about privacy and other ethical
considerations in learning analytics.
  * Commit to spending up to 4-5 hours/week during the course to engage
in the community of practice and complete the learning activities.

Anticipating that there may be more interest that we can accommodate,
selected participants will be notified by the end of the day on September
13 and others will be informed of the waitlist. A second offering of this
e-learning course and thus a second call for applicants is scheduled for
early next year.

If you have any questions about this project or the application to
participate in the e-learning course, please feel contact Lisa Janicke
Hinchliffe, PI (ljanicke at illinois.edu<mailto:ljanicke at illinois.edu>) or
