Located in Portland, Oregon, one of the nation's most livable cities,

Position Summary
Access Services supports the educational, research and service programs of
the University by facilitating user access to resources within and beyond
the Library. Access Services includes the following units: Circulation,
Reserves, Resource Sharing (Summit and Interlibrary Loan), the Off-site
shelving facility and Stacks Maintenance.
The Evening Coordinator coordinates workflow in Access Services during
evening hours, ensures that support services for Summit processing are
completed in a timely fashion, staffs the Circulation Desk, implements all
library policies and procedures, secures all monies before the end of
shift, provides service to all patrons of the library, and closes and
secures the building.
Duties include:

Coordinates and leads the entire late night operations of the library,
including Access Services, by ensuring that all library patrons receive
prompt, courteous service from Access Services staff and up to three
student assistants. This includes four hours per night during which the
Evening Coordinator is the only lead working in the building and is
responsible for library safety, security, and operations.

Responsible for the security of the Library during evening hours by
working with the Campus Public Safety officers and securing the building at
closing.

Assists with Summit processing by collecting materials after closing and
preparing them for morning processing and shipment to any of member
libraries throughout Washington and Oregon. This essential work ensures the
smooth operation of Summit, which must have all materials ready for the
courier by 8:00am every morning.

Required Qualifications

One of the following:
-
Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years)
experience in a Library; OR ,
-
4 years of current library experience; AND , advanced proficiency in
multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library
systems, database applications, institutional repository; content
management systems.

Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s),
e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL
management, government documents, image resources, music.

Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in person, over the phone, and in
writing.
-
Communicate effectively with diverse staff and library users.
-
Excellent organizational skills.
-
Strong time-management skills.
-
Ability to quickly learn and interpret library specific computer
applications.

Demonstrated ability to handle detailed routines efficiently and
accurately.
-
Ability to be self-motivated and willing to accept responsibility to
perform routine tasks without close supervision.

Ability to supervise student workers.
-
General knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Employee MUST have a valid Oregon or Washington Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous academic library experience.
Compensation
The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $17.90 and
$19.51. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it
will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of
the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval
from HR. PSU’s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid
