The Public Library Division (PLD) is going to host the next virtual quarterly meeting and training that will focus on a single topic. We will be having a virtual winter PLD Library Directors’ meeting on Friday, January 29th from 10 am -12:30 pm via zoom. The discussion and presentation focus will be the OLA EDI Antiracism Library Directors' toolkit training.

  *         Why is this training important?

OLA strongly encourages Oregon Library Directors to train their staff on the EDI and Antiracism Best Practices and educational content included on the Toolkit, prior to the 2021 OLA Conference in April.

OLA and The State Library of Oregon are the main stakeholders in the Toolkit project and by multiplying the toolkit training to your staff, you will be contributing to their professional and personal development on the topic of EDI & Antiracism and enhancing their enthusiasm and participation on the 2021 OLA Conference.


  *   When will the toolkit be distributed to Oregon Libraries?

Each Public and Academic Library will receive one printed copy of the Toolkit ideally by late February – early March 2021 via USPS. This copy can be photocopied and distributed to the rest of the library staff for training purposes, Library staff can also access the Toolkit e-version, via the OLA website around the same period of time listed above.

On the week of the Toolkit mail distribution, you will receive instructions via e-mail to direct your staff to OLA’s/State Library of Oregon webpage in order to answer a survey related to the Toolkit content. The survey is anonymous and it is a prerequisite prior to your staff Toolkit training. You can choose any date from the day you receive the Toolkit until a few days prior to the 2021 OLA Conference to gather your staff, go through the Toolkit and share with them what you learned during the Library Director’s Toolkit training.


  *   Who can attend this training?

Training is directed to Public and Academic Library Directors/Managers or Supervisors



  *   How long is the training going to be?

The OLA EDI Antiracism Committee anticipates at least a 2.5 hours training session including Q&A

The toolkit has 48 pages of content, some of them are informational (don’t require training) but at least 18 topics are educational (require training)


  *   How training will be conducted?

The Library Director’s EDI Antiracism Toolkit training will be 100% virtual via Zoom. PLD will distribute the Zoom info and agenda near the event’s date. The training will be held with no interruption and will be recorded for future reference so Library Directors/Managers/Supervisors who won’t be able to join that particular day, will have a chance to watch and share the Toolkit’s vision to their staff. The recording of the training and the e-version of the Toolkit will be available on the OLA webpage. PLD will also distribute the link to the Toolkit e-version via email.

Participants will be encouraged to write down their questions during the training and submit them to the meeting moderator via Zoom chat, the moderator will read the questions at the time intended to Q&A and the toolkit writers will address each question accordingly.
