Greetings everyone!
[cid:image004.jpg at 01D6F64B.62E0AD40]Here's the compilation of online learning opportunities for February. Be sure to check out the State Library's Continuing Education LibGuide<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/> throughout the month as new webinars are added to the COVID-19<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/covid19> and EDI<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/edi> sections when announced.
The following online learning opportunities are free to Oregon library staff, volunteers, and board members:
Recorded: Preparing for the Next Wave of Pandemic-Fatigued Customers presented by Andrew Sanderbeck, originally presented on January 27, 2021.
Information about this webinar is here<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted/covid19>, under "Highlighted Recorded Webinars". Access information coming soon!
February 3, 12:00p PT - Become Spreadsheet Savvy with the Very Basics (Excel & Google)
Hosted by TechTalk: Come with little or no knowledge of spreadsheets and leave with a solid understanding of how and when to use them. Using examples of an event budget (calculations) and a member registration list (sorting to gain insight), we'll cover the basics and popular intermediate topics.
Registration is limited to staff, volunteers and board members of Oregon libraries (all types), use the username and password from the TechTalk Newsletter to register<https://www.tech-talk.com/webinars>.
February 10, 11:00a PT - Mastering Online Presentations<https://www.nicheacademy.com/moving-from-face-to-face-to-webcam-presentations>
Presenting can be daunting in a face-to-face setting - now imagine having the same expectations, but in an online environment. Tiffini Travis brings over a dozen years' experience teaching librarians how to present in public settings. This presentation is designed to help you translate presenting in-person into a Zoom environment. By the end of this session you will have practical tools to present online, including engaging the audience, improving presentation skills (for both in person and online) and enhancing your image via webcam.
February 11, 11:00a PT - Unattended Children: How to talk to parents about their children's behavior
Presented by Ryan Dowd. Topics to be covered include: How poverty effects the hormonal changes in new mothers (hint: it isn't good!); why it matters that Danish mothers leave their infants outside while they go to lunch; and the two key tools for getting parents to watch their children better.
Registration is limited to staff, volunteers, and board members of Oregon libraries (all types). If you're not currently subscribed to receive registration information via the "dowd-webinars" announcement list, you can sign up here<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Reg4HomlessnessTraining> (and select the second option). All Dowd webinars are recorded and made available through the Oregon's Homelessness Training academy<https://my.nicheacademy.com/homelessnessoregonlibraries> - if you don't already have an account, you can sign up here<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Reg4HomlessnessTraining> (select the first option).
February 23, 10:00a PT: State Library Topic Talk: Learn all about: Oregon Documents Depository<https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/conted#s-lib-ctab-24120710-1>
Jey Wann, Oregon Documents Coordinator, will discuss the history of the Oregon Documents Depository Program, describe how to access State Library's Oregon Documents Collection, and feature some interesting, useful, fun, and even wacky, Oregon government publications. And reference librarian Dave Hegeman will cover the many ways Oregon documents can be used to reference, including laws and rules, statistics, and notable reference sources.
If you're planning to attend, and there are particular topics you'd like Jey or Dave to cover, please email us<mailto:jey.a.wann at slo.oregon.gov?subject=Question%20for%20February%20Topic%20Talk> by February 17.
