[cid:image005.jpg at 01D783C6.57C60F00]Greetings! Here's this month's list of online learning opportunities:

>From around Oregon:

  * August 31, 12:00p (PT) - Women's Voices in Library Technology: Explored Through Citation Analysis in Library Publications<https://sites.google.com/g.emporia.edu/slim/continuing-education/webinars>, presented by Dr. Sharon Whitfield / Emporia State University (SLIM)

Free registration required<https://emporiastate.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMsc-yoqTwsGNa72HsvGKKcdZfdUDjHWiQ7> (Zoom link will be sent after registration)

Over a decade ago, M. Lamont's (2009) article, "Gender, Technology, and Libraries," reported that there is an underrepresentation of women as first authors in library technology journals. Her findings presented a broad view that spoke of gender disparity and concluded that libraries have a dichotomized workforce, which consists of women librarians and men who are IT workers. This webinar will discuss my research study, which replicates Lamont's (2009) research. I use current publications (2018-2020) and textual analysis of library technology journal article abstracts to find what technology themes women's voices are present or absent. During this webinar, we will explore the findings of how women's voices are being represented in library technology publications and determine if gender disparity continues in library technology publications.

For Oregon library staff only:

  * August 4, 12:00 (PT) - 8 Things to Do in SnagIt to Improve Your Image Captures (Tech-Talk)
OK, you know how to capture a Snag on your screen and some basic editing. Now it's time to up-level your images. In this webinar we'll walk through eight features that will take your image editing to the next level.

  * August 18, 12:00 (PT) - [BASIC/INTER] Add Speed and Polish When Working With Office Documents (Tech-Talk)
Discover some all-time favorites for speeding up your work and adding a professional touch which are good in all types of Office documents.

Registration required at: https://www.tech-talk.com/webinars; use the username and password available at the top of each Tech-Talk newsletter.

Webinar Series from PLA: Partners in Workforce Development. These webinars are free, but separate registration<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0xMDEzOTM3MyZwPTEmdT0xMDA3NDQ4NjEwJmxpPTg4Mzk3MTQy/index.html> for each live webinar is required. Future monthly webinars will cover topics ranging from understanding industry credentials to supporting youth work and career readiness. Additional resources also are available at www.ala.org/pla/initiatives/workforce<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0xMDEzOTM3MyZwPTEmdT0xMDA3NDQ4NjEwJmxpPTg4Mzk3MTQ1/index.html>.

  * August 19, 10:00 - 11:30a (PT) - Partnering to Meet Community Workforce Needs<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0xMDEzOTM3MyZwPTEmdT0xMDA3NDQ4NjEwJmxpPTg4Mzk3MTQ0/index.html>. The first webinar in the series introduces and showcases national workforce partners and local collaborative program examples. Panelists will answer the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and, most importantly, HOW to collaborate to improve library services and visibility-no matter your starting point-as well as enhance patron and community impacts.

  * August 26, 10:00 - 11:30a (PT) - Strengthen Patron Workforce Opportunities with Labor Market Information<http://ala.informz.net/z/cjUucD9taT0xMDEzOTM3MyZwPTEmdT0xMDA3NDQ4NjEwJmxpPTg4Mzk3MTI4/index.html>. Helping patrons with job search and resumes are just the first steps toward economic recovery and resilience; libraries are well-positioned to help people explore career opportunities and prepare for the future of work. Library staff accessing and using state and regional labor market information (LMI) are better equipped to work with community partners to help people move from "dead-end" jobs to "quality" jobs and careers that match people's skills and passion.
