The OHS Research Library offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to grow their processing skills, explore an extensible processing approach, and collaborate with others while working on a marquee collection with historical racial justice implications. The Yasui Brothers store records, circa 1905-1942, are a large collection of business and personal records with a substantial amount of Japanese language material, and they document the experiences and contributions of Japanese immigrants in the Western United States prior to their wartime incarceration by the U.S. government. The Yasui family built multiple successful businesses in Hood River, Oregon, and directly helped to guide and support the Japanese community there until they were incarcerated; their family's experience has been explored in books and documentary films. Minoru Yasui was a prominent Oregon civil rights attorney and activist awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015.
This limited-duration position is funded by an IMLS grant and begins July 1, 2022.
