Position Summary
The Electronic Resources and Cataloging Assistant is responsible for cataloging and maintaining library information resources, including serials and monographic series. The employee also maintains print serials holdings, including verifying and updating detailed holdings statements and creating serial holdings records in Alma and OCLC Connexion following MARC 21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) standards. The employee will organize and conduct highly complex database maintenance processes for electronic resources and perform complex copy cataloging of electronic and print serial and monographic resources for all library collections. Position catalogs library materials according to national, regional, and local standards, rules, and practices. Tasks are mainly done independently with professional help as needed. The employee has frequent email communication with university students, faculty, staff, vendors, and community guests. The employee participates in monitoring, resolving, and answering user-reported access and discovery problems. This employee participates in special projects as assigned.
Cataloging
• Performs complex copy cataloging of electronic and print serial and monographic resources for all library collections. Create and/or maintain CONSER Publication Patterns data. Maintains, adds, and revises MARC bibliographic records in OCLC. Manipulates, updates, and imports record sets. Creates and/or edits records to accurately reflect materials being cataloged in accordance with national, regional, and local cataloging standards and practices.
• Shares in the Dark Horse cataloging project creating original bibliographic records for Dark Horse titles. Follows local, regional, and national cataloging practices and procedures in providing description and access to this collection.
Electronic Resource Management
• Participates in maintaining access to electronic resources and verifying and updating holdings coverage data for electronic journals. Activates new electronic resources and updates journal packages as new titles are purchased.
User Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution
• Monitors the user problem reporting email list. Troubleshoots and resolves user discovery and access issues. Consults with other staff and shares information as needed.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelors degree plus 2 years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR , 4 years of current library experience
• Proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems and database applications.
• Knowledge of complex copy cataloging (RDA) and serials management.
Compensation
The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $18.12 and $20.62. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
