The Maggie Osgood Library in Lowell (near Springfield) has been closed for several years due to a failing roof, and this rural community has been without public library services since then. Happily, the city is rebuilding the facility at a new location and is now hiring its first paid library director. Top priorities for this halftime position include: overseeing the daily operations of the library; managing volunteers; developing positive relationships with community stakeholders and organizations to support the success of the library; developing programming for library patrons; and building the library collection.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in guiding a revitalized rural library into its next chapter. The city’s goal is to have the new director in place in July to prepare for the library’s fall reopening.
