Position Opening: Elementary School Librarian
The International School of Portland, Oregon
Department: Administration
Reports to: Head of School
FLSA Status: Exempt
FTE: 1.0 (Full Time)
Schedule: Follows Faculty Calendar
Duration: 10 months

Effective start date: August 2022
The International School of Portland (ISP) is an independent, coeducational, language immersion IB day school for 350 students, Pre-K (3-year-olds) -Grade 5. The mission of the School is to inspire children to become global citizens through an inquiry-based learning environment of total immersion in multiple languages and cultures. It is located just south of downtown Portland, Oregon on the edge of the Waterfront District, making this close-knit campus with outdoor playground areas attractive to families on both sides of the river.

The centrally located campus provides an urban environment where students benefit from easy access to the Oregon Ballet, the Portland Japanese Garden, the Lan Su Chinese Garden, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the Portland Art Museum, and so much more! The School itself functions in five buildings, the most recent being Learners' Hall, which houses classrooms, a faculty lounge, and some offices.
For 30 years, ISP has provided a warm, multicultural environment where children experience full language immersion from preschool through Grade 5 in three language tracks: Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese.
Small classes and an inquiry-based, International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum enable the students to acquire language fluency and cultural competence as they learn to pursue knowledge beyond the classroom and throughout life. The engaging and robust academic program is taught primarily by native speakers from around the world.
Today, our school is actively recruiting for the position opening of Elementary School Librarian. Ideally, this position will begin effective August, 2022 for the 2022-2023 school term.
General Summary:
The Elementary School Librarian is a vital member of The International School's community. This position will help to create a school climate that welcomes and appreciates the strengths and gifts of a culturally diverse community. Through the Primary Years Programme, the school librarian will collaborate with all members of the community to ensure that students' learning experiences are coherent, relevant, engaging, and challenging.
A full-time 10-month position reporting to the Head of School, the Librarian leads the library team and oversees and manages the librarian in support of the students, faculty, and administrative staff.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Library Management, Library Administration, managing library assistant(s), collection development, maintaining the ILS, Teaching and promoting Literacy, information gathering skills, managing library resources supporting Primary Years Programming (PYP) and developing all library programming.
The ideal candidate will have successful experience working with a culturally diverse community.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Compensation and Benefits:
$60,000-$65,000 Depending on Experience
Employer paid Medical, Dental, Vision, Short term, Long term Disability, and Life Insurance for employee only, voluntary Cafeteria plan with FSA, DCA and Transit account,403(b) retirement plan, flexible and generous paid time off. Tuition discount for a qualifying child. and a relocation fee of up to $5,000 may be offered.
Indicative Timelines:
Closing date: July but may end earlier depending on candidates
Interviews: Interviews will begin immediately
Required Qualifications:
        •       Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) or a Teaching Certificate with a Library Media Endorsement
        •       Communicate fluently in written and spoken English
Preferred Qualifications:
        •        5 + years of experience as a librarian
        •        Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese
        •       Experience in a supervisory role
        •       Experience as a librarian at an educational institution, or a similar field
        •       Comfortable in an international community with experience living and/or traveling overseas and studying other languages.
        •       Any other combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the candidate is likely to possess the skill, knowledge, ability and trait characteristics essential for this position may be considered.
