Happens every year on January 1st (this past January 1st put F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, Winnie-the-Pooh, Buster Keaton’s Go West, and works by 'Jelly Roll’ Morton, Fats Waller, Sippie Wallace, and Duke Ellington into the public domain).

Coming up on January 1st 2023? More works from Virginia Wolfe, Willa Cather, Ernest Hemmingway, and Agatha Christie. An interesting piece of info on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes character, "What happens when a work containing a character such as Sherlock Holmes enters the public domain, but that character also appears in still-copyrighted works? The law is clear that the original version of the character enters the public domain at the same time as the work that contained it, even if subsequent installments or episodes are still under copyright." Looks like all of Sherlock Holmes will be public domain. (cited from link below)
