Dear Friends and Colleagues --
This is a great opportunity. I would encourage you to forward this
announcement to others who may be interested.
I have never attended. But when I worked for a predominantly white school
district in a predominantly white city in a predominantly white state, in a
predominantly white region of the country... I was able to send several
Black and African American teachers and principals to this conference when
it was held in Texas. When they returned, they all mentioned how great the
conference was and what an impact it had on them.

*About NABSE*
The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) is the nation’s
premiere non-profit organization devoted to furthering the academic success
for the nation’s children – particularly children of African descent. NABSE
boasts an outreach to a distinguished group of preeminent educators
including teachers, administrators, superintendents as well as corporate
and institutional members. Founded in 1970, NABSE is dedicated to improving
both the educational experiences and accomplishments of African American
youth through the development and use of instructional and motivational
methods that increase levels of inspiration, attendance and overall
achievement.
*NABSE seeks to:*
- Promote and facilitate the education of all students, with a
particular focus on African American students;
- Establish a coalition of African American educators, administrators
and other professionals directly and indirectly involved in the educational
process;
- Create a forum for the exchange of ideas and strategies to improve
opportunities for African American educators and students;
- Identify and develop African American professionals who will assume
leadership positions in education and influence public policy concerning
the education of African Americans.
*NABSE Mission *
- Professional Development Programs that strengthen the skills of
teachers, principals, specialists, superintendents and school board members;
- Information Sharing around innovative instructional and learning
strategies that have proven successful in motivating African American youth
and increasing academic performance in critical learning areas; and
- Policy Advocacy to ensure high standards and quality in our public and
private education systems
- Research programs of the Charles D. Moody, Sr. Institute produce
projects that identify educational practices that demonstrate excellence in
the school performance of African American studies.
*NABSE FOCUS*
*RELEVANT: *NABSE must ensure that its efforts are relevant! It is
important that NABSE develops programming that is strategically designed
and relevant to the current needs of students and educators. The efforts
of local affiliates, state affiliates and national commissions should
embrace the organization's past while connecting to the reality of the 21st
Century.
*IMPACTFUL: *NABSE must ensure that its efforts are impactful! The
experiences that members and participants have while engaging with the
organization should be transformative. The benefits of their experiences
should be seen and heard when they return to their respective positions.
They should be able to translate their learning to impact others within
their sphere of influence.
*SUSTAINABLE:* NABSE must engage in efforts that are sustainable! The
organization must ensure that appropriate protocols are in place to
facilitate the development of long-term relationships that will be here
through the future. NABSE must engage in new models and modes of
communication that will allow the organization to leverage its platform
while building a network of learning that transcends its annual conference.
*EXCELLENCE: *NABSE must ensure a mark of excellence! NABSE has to be
intentional at all levels (local, state, national) to represent a brand of
high performance and high expectations. The organization’s signage, logos,
website and interactions are a representation of the mission and goals of
the organization and therefore must bear a trademark of excellence.
