[Libs-Or] [EXTERNAL] Software to reset public computers

Kirsten,
I echo our colleagues' observations, but I also observed that although Deep Freeze does not interfere with EnvisionWare's systems, Deep Freeze can be difficult to maintain if you choose to use the client-server option, which is more for a large deployment. In my opinion, if you are just deploying DeepFreeze on dozen or less computers, then using it without the server component is simple and easy by just doing updates and/or configurations at each individual computer. I am not discouraging you away from the server/client option; I just remember having to relearn how to use the server each time I needed it and I found it counterintuitive to connect replacement computers to the server, but once you do so, it can be quite powerful.
An open source alternative to Deep Freeze (and it is fun in a DIY sort of way) is to deploy Linux computers and use Dafturn-Ofris to "freeze" their home drives. Not a perfect solution, but I did it in one of the branches at the last library I worked for. Not only does it not cost any money, but it is also substantially easier to keep the computers up-to-date with security and feature patches. Let me know if you're interested in knowing more.
Cordially,

Hi, Kirsten. We've been using Deep Freeze and PC Reservation together for years, and so far as I know, we haven't had issues with the combination.

Hi folks,
We've been using Clean Slate to reset our public computers after patron sessions, but lately it has been causing issues with reboots and not playing well with our Envisionware software. Our IT department is looking at switching to Deep Freeze, but I thought I'd ask what folks are using and if it works well with Envisionware session management software.
