Title: Book Banning In The U.S. And The Positive Impact Of Diverse Books: What New Data Tells Us
Date/time: Wednesday, Nov 8, 3:00p PT

During this free webinar, attendees will learn about newly released 2023 data on book banning from ALA, and a new study from First Book about the chilling effect that conversation around book bans are having on teacher morale and student learning - far beyond the areas directly facing book restrictions. First Book will also share the results of a separate study revealing the positive impact that diverse books have on student learning outcomes. As partners in Unite Against Book Bans, presenters will also share more about how to get involved in the fight to stop these dangerous efforts to curtail the freedom to read.

Date/time: Tuesday, Nov 14, 12:00p PT

A free service of the world's largest biomedical library, MedlinePlus offers high-quality online health information geared toward patients, their families and friends. We will look at this valuable resource, including its section on American Indian and Alaska Native Health, and share some tips for getting the most from it.

Presenter: In his role with the Network of the National Library of Medicine, George Strawley, M.L.I.S., works on funding and training aimed at addressing health disparities through reliable health information. He works for NNLM's Region 4, which serves the Intermountain West and the Dakotas. With library experience in both public and academic settings, he is now based at the University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library. George is a non-Native of colonizer ancestry who is grateful for the opportunities he gets to learn from indigenous cultures.

The curriculum provides a learning pathway to help get started, build facilitation skills, and create conversation guides to hold your own circles of dialog.
