POSITION: Acquisitions Assistant
TYPE: Full-time, SEIU-represented, Library Technician 3 classification
LOCATION: Portland State University Library, Portland, OR

Position Summary
This position is responsible for invoice processing, licensing, ordering,
processing, and receiving new library materials. The employee will
independently conduct highly complex and difficult bibliographic searches
as part of the ordering processes.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills are required as this
position frequently interacts with campus procurement staff, vendors and
publishers, library faculty, and other unit staff.
Tasks are done largely independently with help as needed. The employee
works with the Collection Development & Management Librarian on special
projects.

Procurement reconciliation

Minimum Qualifications from Classification
-
Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience
in a Library; OR ,
-
4 years of current library experience;
-
AND, advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer
applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications,
institutional repository; content management systems.

Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s),
e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL
management, government documents, image resources, music.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
-
Advanced written and verbal communication skills are required as this
position frequently interacts with librarians and library staff and vendors
and suppliers;
-
Proficiency in library specific computer applications (OCLC, integrated
library systems, and other) and MS Office and Google productivity software;
-
Understanding of basic cataloging standards;
-
Aptitude for making progress on multiple projects and setting priorities;
-
Decision-making ability.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Ability to read and transliterate a foreign language.
Compensation
The starting hourly salary rate for this position will be between $18.12
and $20.62. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however
it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities
of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval
from HR. PSU’s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid
healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition
rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public
Universities.
