Hi all,
The Intellectual Freedom Committee would like to share a congratulations
out to Seaside Public Library, who last night was successful in a recall
vote
<https://www.seasidesignal.com/news/voters-moving-to-recall-seaside-city-councilor-over-potential-age-restrictions-at-library/article_49d2cbce-503a-11ef-8563-8326c94e4b59.html>
on City Councilor, Steve Dillard. Councilor Dillard has been actively
seeking age restrictions on children’s materials at the Seaside Public
Library. A recall petition on Councilor Dillard’s term was filed as a
response to his ongoing requests to limit access to materials of kids, and
the vote was held last night. As of this morning, the vote passed 63% to
37%.
The IFC would like to again, extend a congratulations to Seaside Public
Library and the community of Seaside for continuing to fight for
intellectual freedom, including free and open access to materials,
including supporting the rights of minors.
It is nice to share a success story and we remain cautiously optimistic for
the Seaside community as a result of this vote.
Happy Friday all,
Emily
