Thanks so much for sharing! This is a fantastic video that helps connect the dots on the impact of libraries in the community.
For those interested, the Knight Foundation has additional resources (both research<https://knightfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/KF-Measuring-Progress-toward-Downtown-Final.pdf> and toolkit<https://knightfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/KF-Toolkit-Measuring-Progress-toward-Downtown-Final.pdf>) on downtown revitalization that may be thought provoking. Beaverton included a Downtown Equity Strategy<https://content.civicplus.com/api/assets/6f199eb5-388f-4bad-852e-77f67ae6693d> to help guide their investments in that city’s Urban Renewal Area. The “public spaces” these resources talk about, welcoming spaces where people from all backgrounds are drawn to, are often left unnamed. We know that libraries fit these criteria, but the word “library” does not occur once in any of these documents. We have to keep reminding funders, business leaders and community members of the important role that libraries have on so many levels.
That’s why a clear, concise video like this one can be such a valuable tool. Thank you to the Josephine Community Library Foundation!
Thanks,
Wendy

Subject: [Libs-Or] A library's role in local economic development
Good afternoon,
In July 2023, Josephine Community Library Foundation purchased property to serve as the future site of a new downtown Grants Pass library with the help of many generous donors and grant funders. A new, larger building is proposed to replace the current county-owned structure that the public library is currently operating out of. The new library will help revitalize and expand that part of downtown. This visionary project promises to be more than just a library — it's a community hub that will ignite economic growth, enhance downtown walkability, and bring people together in rural southern Oregon. We are sharing this video with the hope that it will inspire or spark ideas for ways to promote your library’s role in local economic development.
