The International Relations Round Table of the Oregon Library Association
is pleased to announce that the delegates for the upcoming Horner Library
Staff Exchange trip to China have been selected. Join us in congratulating
Jennifer Cox, Haley Lagasse, and Ingrid Topp-Johnson. We also have chosen
two alternates: Lara Phillips and April Younglove. They will all help us
welcome librarians from Fujian province, China who will visit Oregon in
May. In October, our delegates will travel to Fujian, China to represent
Oregon libraries by giving presentations and meeting with library staff
there.

Jennifer Cox is the Dean of Library and Learning Resources at Chemeketa
Community College and was previously the Virtual Reference Coordinator for
the State Library of Oregon. Haley Lagasse is the Director of Library
Service for the city of North Bend, Oregon, having previously been the
Director of Public Services for the Central Arkansas Library System. Ingrid
Topp-Johnson works for the Events and Reader Services department for
Multnomah County Library. Ingrid has lived in China and has Mandarin
language translation skills and will serve as the delegation's translator.

The two alternates, Lara Phillips and April Younglove, are equally
impressive. Lara is an MCL Librarian and wrote an ALA-published book on
international librarianship, drawing on her experience working at the
University of South Pacific in Fiji. April is an Adult Services Librarian
at Lake Oswego Library and manages the World Languages collection there.

As you can see, Oregon libraries and librarians will be very well
represented in this exchange and we look forward to another successful
exchange!

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Oregon-Fujian sister state
relationship. The first library staff exchange was in 1997 and since then,
over 40 library staff have travelled between the two countries as part of
the Horner Exchange. If you are interested in getting involved in the
Exchange or exploring other international library opportunities, please
consider joining the IRRT through the OLA. More information can be found on
the OLA IRRT webpage

Quote from Kelly Yang, author of *Front Desk*"I am living, walking proof in
the power of libraries and librarians to change lives. And now, as an
author, I am so proud to be giving back, writing accessible and important
books with diverse characters so that all children can see themselves in
books. I hope my books bring hope and comfort to children of all walks of
life, just as the librarians in my school brought me."
