The Oregon Library Association Quarterly (OLAQ) is seeking submissions for
the Summer 2024 issue. Article proposals are due by March 31, 2024.

The OLAQ’s editorial mission is to showcase the innovative work of Oregon
library workers, students, partner organizations, and volunteers. Editorial
guidelines
<http://ola.memberclicks.net/message2/link/3f1daf70-abad-4e2a-a96b-9619e6d6ddcd/1>
have recently been updated to reflect OLA’s values and equity, diversity,
inclusion, and antiracism efforts. To learn more about the journal,
see the OLAQ
website <https://journals3.library.oregonstate.edu/olaq>.

The theme for the summer issue is Collections: New Challenges, New
Solutions.

Now is a critical moment for libraries and the collections that they offer.
Even as attacks on intellectual freedom stand to limit access to materials
that represent a wide range of identities and experiences, library workers
have risen to the challenge, continuing to find innovative ways to build,
catalog, manage, and market vibrant collections that meet the needs of the
diverse communities they serve. Whether it’s creating an eye-catching
display, developing a purchasing strategy that can adapt to a dynamic and
ever-changing population, or even just chatting with a patron at the desk
about the latest releases, nearly every library worker has a role in making
the collection useful, inspiring, discoverable, and beloved. OLAQ wants to
hear about the work that you are doing involving collections that is having
an impact on your community or within your organization.

Guest editor for this issue will be Le Button, Collection Development
Librarian at Deschutes Public Library. Originally from Washington state, Le
received his MLIS from the University of Washington in 2018. He has worked
in both public and academic libraries, and is co-founder of the Queer
Comics Database.

Proposals should include the author’s name and contact information,
proposed topic, and a brief description (300-500 words). If accepted, the
full article will be due in April.

Send proposals to olaq at olaweb.org by March 31, 2024

Article length averages 1,000 to 2,500 words, and images and creative work
are welcome.

Please also include answers to the following questions:

   -

How does the proposed topic relate to the theme?
   -

What is your connection to the policies or services described in your
   proposal?
   -

Do you address issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism
   in your article?

Please note that we welcome proposals by those new to professional writing
or who face other barriers and will be offering a team of editors to
support authors in the writing process. If you would like to discuss your
idea, please reach out!
