VIDEO - Have You Tried Clipchamp for Video Editing?

There are so many video creation platforms out there and it can be hard to decide which one to use.



It's nice when you have one at your fingertips at no cost, right? Especially if you only create or edit videos once in a while.



As part of the Microsoft suite of products, you may have used the video editor that was part of the Microsoft Photos App in Windows 10 or Windows Movie Maker in the past. These options are being phased out.



To replace them, Microsoft acquired a user-friendly video app called Clipchamp and it is now the official Microsoft video editor.

This tool boasts that it has everything you need to create show-stopping videos with no experience required.



Clipchamp does have both a free and paid level. Depending on your Microsoft 365 license for work or school, you may have access to the premium features based on the type of account (check with your tech administrator).

·     We were able to get started quickly by selecting from a library of templates for various social media platforms (e.g., YouTube, Instagram) as well as templates for ads, presentations, and other formats.


·     You can access a vast stock library of licensed videos, images, music, and sound effects, to enhance your videos.

3. Text, Titles, and Graphics


·     Clipchamp has easy-to-use tools for adding text, titles, overlays, and graphics, including customizable fonts, colors, and effects.


·     And you can even add animated text and motion graphics for more dynamic videos.

4. Filters and Effects


·     There are built-in filters and visual effects options that can change the look and feel of videos, like adding cinematic or vintage looks.


·     Transitions and effects are easy to add for smooth scene changes and attention-grabbing visuals.

5. AI-Powered Features

·     The Text-to-speech converts written text into voiceovers with multiple language options and voices.


·     You can automatically generate captions that can be manually adjusted as needed.


·     And it removes backgrounds from videos to create professional-looking content without a green screen.

6. Screen and Webcam Recording


·     Need to record what you are showing on your screen? You can! Record both your screen and webcam (your picture), making it ideal for tutorials and live presentations.


·     Screen recording options make it easy to select specific windows, tabs, or the whole screen.

7. Voiceover and Audio Editing


·     You can layer in your voiceover recording within the editor.


·     Audio editing tools like volume adjustments, fade in/out, and more advanced sound options.

8. Collaborative Features


·     Working with a team on a video project? Take advantage of cloud storage integration for collaboration and sharing.


·     Clipchamp includes functionality that allows multiple users to work on the same video project.


·     And if you're a Microsoft 365 user, Clipchamp integrates with other tools in the MS world, making it easier to work seamlessly between apps.

Fix the underlying process



You know that we write new articles each week and send them via email, right? That's 52 mailings a year so it stands to reason, we're going to make a mistake now and then, wouldn't you agree?



For instance, one time we put the wrong logo into the top banner (oops!). That's not good. So you might think we would find out who is responsible and ask them to be more careful.



Surprise! That's not the best solution.



What if the issue were much bigger? Perhaps it was lost files, a dissatisfied customer or an unnecessary expense. It would be so easy (and human) to blame the person who "caused" the problem.



But if you don't want it to happen again ... blame the process. And then fix it!



Examine the situation and figure out how you can adjust the underlying process to give you greater comfort in its reliability.



People will make mistakes. It's human nature, so beef up the process to alleviate future problems. In our logo case, we changed the order in which we produced the co-branded banners, reducing the likelihood of making this same mistake again.
