The permit is called the Central Cascades Wilderness Permit. It was implemented a few years ago and is required for some day hiking and all overnight hiking in the Mt. Jefferson, Three Sisters, and Mt. Washington Wilderness areas. This is the link with more information: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/willamette/passes-permits/recreation/?cid=fseprd688355

As Darci mentioned the Deschutes Library has these passes. I would suggesting contacting them with questions before trying to get any information out of the Forest Service.

Hi all,

There are two kinds of passes that are "out there" - one is for Oregon State Parks ("cultural pass" for parking permits) and the other is for national wilderness areas (managed by the US Forest Service).

Deschutes Public Library System does offer pass(es) for nearby wilderness areas and other libraries may as well...

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Hi Sami,

It was probably a pass through LEO Discover and Go. https://librariesofeasternoregon.quipugroup.net/ It is a cultural pass software program that LEO (Libraries of Eastern Oregon) just implemented this year and parks department reservations are on there. Other communities also have similar software that they offer passes to their patrons as well. Let me know if you have any other questions about it.

Have a great day,

Hello all -

I'm trying to do my due diligence on a reference question but need some help. One of our patrons was hiking in the Sisters Wilderness area where you need a permit and heard another hiker mention that they had checked out a permit from their library that is good for a week. I tried the Forest Service, but they didn't think such a thing existed. So, I am wondering if (in this game of telephone) something/some information got lost. I feel like if I had a better description or name of the pass, I would have much better success of obtaining one if they do exist. If you are the library that checks these out, can you please get in touch. Thanks.

Sami
