Even if you've set up a profile in LinkedIn, be sure to take a look at Indeed.com. It’s considered one of the most powerful job-search platforms available today.
Whether it's actively seeking employment, considering a career change, or simply exploring new opportunities, Indeed can help. Let's walk through what this platform has to offer and how to use it to get hired faster and move forward in a career.
Why is Indeed a Great Resource?
[Indeed logo with blue text and a curved design above the letter i]
As one of the largest job databases, a feature that sets it apart from others is that Indeed combines job listings from across the web, places like company career pages, staffing agencies, and job boards. This gives you access to more opportunities.
Additional options include:
· Free to Use - Indeed allows you to search for jobs, apply, and use most of its features at no cost. There are premium levels for advanced options.
· "Easy Apply" Option - You can either upload a resume or build one right in the platform. The "Easy Apply" option speeds up the application process, making it more convenient as you don't need to fill out long application forms for each job.
· Powerful Job Search Filters - The advanced filtering narrows your search by items like salary, location/remote, organization, experience level, and more.
· Company Reviews and Salary Data - Read current employee reviews and salary information to get an inside look before applying.
· Job Alerts - Set up alerts to get customized notifications when new jobs matching your criteria are posted.
· Global Reach – If your search is international, Indeed is available in over 60 countries, making it ideal for job seekers looking for opportunities worldwide.
In addition to comprehensive career search capabilities, Indeed has:
· Assessments for Job Seekers - A person can complete free skills tests which allow them to showcase their expertise to employers.
· Career Advice and Resources - Indeed provides free career advice, including resume tips, interview guidance, and industry trends.
Looking for Career Growth?
You don’t need to be looking for a new job to use Indeed, it's also a great resource for career development. Here are three ways you can use it to grow in your field:
1. Use the Indeed Salaries option to see what professionals in your field earn.
2. Compare salaries in different locations to make informed career decisions.
3. Check out job trends to see which skills are currently in high demand.

· Write a strong headline that reflects your expertise and job aspirations. (See this Tech-Talk article on a "headline analyzer"<https://opiayfbab.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001W6crSFmgMyuAumf0ANNmR7vccYHqcyqUXUXcYQ3_FoMXBmzxQLs1O7tDHUEcLSIVjYSG4lc1ZkTitKDqzyVxQ4srwWOdPRWsp2PAiEdvncd8SrJUnnUJJjKWznOk9_v3xXkd9p0bpK74YOmixDHn6yJFBsdcjjL12f9GW9MP9pos0S6jTLAZhxfjr6Y4fe6ZGRx0wfHVPgK3N7Zuof7PfQ8mCPjG9RXz&c=v2wFVXwZmUzuk6Km2h2CCLlXHy4GXIeotRZUSG27nG0ZgN4scKAchw==&ch=IpfTGzIEHopCdKLEe9-2F-0sTun4jzBPoX1xDKFqTnsZ-Py1rhQ5TA==> for help.)
· Provide a summary that highlights your key skills and career achievements. (We suggest you include results you've achieved in past positions. That impresses employers.)
· List your work experience, education, and certifications clearly.
· Include relevant keywords to make your profile searchable.
· Improve your job matches by listing your qualifications, job preferences and when you're available.
[Resume upload prompt with text Save time when you apply]
Uploading and Optimizing Your Resume
· Upload a polished resume or use Indeed’s resume builder.
· Customize your resume for different roles you're seeking by emphasizing the most relevant skills for that exact position.
· Make sure your contact information is clear and up to date.
Start Searching for Your Dream Job
Indeed makes job searching easy with various filters to help narrow your results. Instead of scrolling endlessly through listings, use these tips to find the right opportunities faster.
· Use keywords strategically – Search by job title, industry or company.
· Then, filter results – Narrow by location, salary, remote work, company name, and more.
[Job search interface showing filters]
[Form to receive job alerts for a marketing manager includes a field for email address and an Activate button]
· Save your searches – Indeed allows you to save searches and revisit them later.
· Set up job alerts – Get notified when new jobs matching your criteria are posted.
Applying Smartly
Once you find a job that interests you, it's time to apply. A strong application can help you stand out among potentially hundreds of applicants.
· Customize your resume and cover letter – Tailor your application to highlight the skills, experience, and results relevant to the role.
· Use a professional tone – Keep your language clear and confident. (We suggest you express a desire to help the organization succeed ... rather than what the job can do for you.)
Example: Instead of, "a position to use my excellent leadership skills" say something more like, "us my strong communication skills to help XYZ Company achieve its strategic goals."
· Highlight your achievements – Show how you've added value in previous roles. (We want to reinforce how important it is to point out the results you're achieved in previous positions. Quantify them.) Example: "Processed 350 new books into circulation monthly." "Satisfactorily responded to customer issues, resulting in 0% complaints."
· Follow up – A polite email or message to the hiring manager can reinforce your interest. Don't be shy. Employers like to see initiative.
Some jobs allow for an "Easy Apply" option, which lets you apply with one click. However, for positions with a lot of applicants, it's often better to submit a detailed, customized application.
Other Indeed Options
[Four job listings with ratings review counts and employee numbers]
· Explore Company Reviews - Read reviews from current and former employees. Look for insights on company culture, work-life balance, and growth opportunities.
· Connect with Recruiters - Follow companies you're interested in to see job postings and updates. Reach out to recruiters or hiring managers when appropriate.
· Use Indeed's Career Advice - Explore the resources for resume tips, interview guidance, and job market insights to stay updated on workplace trends and best practices.

Communications: Interviewing Unexpected power phrases
Whether you’re being interviewed for a job … or doing the questioning for hiring … there are a few unexpected phrases that can give you real insight.
Here are three sets of power words that will hold you in good stead, no matter what the circumstance. We’ll show you how you can apply these in a job-hunting situation. (Click on each link to get to the article with more details on the technique itself.)
Example Situation: You are applying for a side hustle with Tech-Talk.
1. “Tell Me About That” When the interviewer mentions a program, project or an aspect of the position, you can show sincere interest and listening skills by using this phrase.
· In response to something like, “We’re very accommodating with whatever our prospective library clients want.” … You say, “Tell me about that.” (Rather than assume you know what is meant by this, it shows that you’re hearing and want to know more.)
· Suppose I say, “When you call, you’re actually offering a gift first.” Your comment is, “Tell me about that.” (This way you don’t have to say, “I don’t understand what you mean by a gift.”)
2. “What is one thing…” Now it’s time for you to explore the position for which you are interviewing. (Employers love well thought out questions. Use this phrase to get the skinny on what’s important.)
· “What is one thing that makes this role so valuable to the organization?”
· “What is one thing that I could do to exceed your expectations in this role?”
3. “Are You Open to…”. You can show initiative … and share what interests you about the job, by using this phrase.
· Are you open to hearing ideas I may have for improving processes?
· Are you open to giving me early feedback on what I’m doing so I can use that information to make the job even better?
TIP: Go to the Tech-Talk database. In the navigation bar at the top, click on SEARCH. Then choose Communication: Power Words. You’ll get a whole series of helpful power words and phrases ... including more info on the three in this article.
