SELF-PACED TUTORIAL: The ADA for Libraries<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/48698> (Oregon Library Staff Academy – Oregon libraries only)
Historically, people with disabilities have been denied the right to participate in many aspects of life because of prejudice, outdated attitudes, and physical or social barriers.

Libraries can play a key role in helping people with disabilities take part in public life, and follow the Americans with Disabilities Act—or ADA—to make spaces and services accessible for everyone. Understanding the ADA and how it affects the library will help you better serve patrons with disabilities so they can fully participate in the life of their community. [LEARN<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/48698>]

Oregon library staff and volunteers can request access to the Oregon Library Staff Academy by using this form<https://www.cognitoforms.com/StateLibraryOfOregon/RequestAccessToContinuingEducationResources> and choosing the option for the Oregon Library Staff Academy)

Accessibility Resource: New ADA Rules Explained: Implications for Libraries and Frequently Asked Questions<https://www.ala.org/accessibility/ada-rules-faq> (ALA)
On April 24, 2024, the Federal Register published the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) final rule on Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability. The new Subpart H adds specific requirements for state and local governments— which includes 85% of all American libraries — to ensure that their web content and mobile applications are accessible to and usable by people with disabilities.

From “The Basics” to “Next Steps and Resources”, this guide from ALA can assist libraries in meeting specific requirements for state and local governments— which includes 85% of all American libraries — to ensure that their web content and mobile applications are accessible to and usable by people with disabilities.
