Hello library colleagues! I am Oregon’s representative to ALA Council, and I want to draw your attention to legislation proposed to the U.S. House this week .
H.R. 7761, also known as the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act," would modify the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 by prohibiting use of funds under the act “to develop, implement, facilitate, host, or promote any program or activity for, or to provide or promote literature or other materials to, children under the age of 18 that includes sexually oriented material, and for other purposes.” It explicitly prohibits materials about gender dysphoria and transgenderism.

The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Education & Workforce, of which Oregon Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici is a member.
Call your Representative and tell them to protect Oregon youth’s right to read and prevent the wasteful use of tax dollars that would be required to purge our school libraries of “objectionable” material.
