CYBERSECURITY - Passkeys Replacing Passwords
Intermediate
[passkey]
If you’ve ever stared at a login screen, trying to remember a password, thinking “Was it the dog’s name… or the dog’s name plus a number… or the dog’s name with an exclamation point?” — you are not alone.
Passwords have officially become a mess.
We’re told to make them long… complicated… unique for every site… never write them down… and change them often. No wonder people reuse them or forget them. The system hasn’t been very human-friendly, right?
That’s where passkeys come in!
What are Passkeys?
A passkey is a new, simpler way to sign in to websites and apps — without typing a password at all. Instead, you unlock your login the same way you unlock your phone or computer … with a fingerprint, Face ID, or a PIN.
A passkey is a new kind of digital login credential that replaces passwords with a cryptographically secure method tied to your device.
Again, instead of typing a password, you unlock access using your phone or computer ...with biometrics (fingerprint or face scan) or a PIN.
Behind the scenes, passkeys use strong security technology, but you don’t have to understand any of that.
What matters is this:
Your secret never leaves your device (e.g. phone, computer, iPad). There’s nothing for hackers to steal, and nothing for you to remember.
No more:
· “Forgot password?” loops
· Password notebooks
· Reusing the same password everywhere
· Falling for fake login pages (phishing)
Why Are Passkeys Safer Now?
Passkeys are also much safer because they only work on the real website you’re visiting. Fake sites can’t trick them.
So why are we seeing more of them now?
Because the big tech platforms finally agreed on a common system… and modern phones, tablets, and computers already support passkeys. Many popular sites are offering them now, and more are switching every month.
You won’t wake up tomorrow and find passwords gone everywhere. This is a transition. For a while, you’ll see both options. But make no mistake… passwords are on their way out.
WEBINAR: Want to See How Passkeys Work in Real Life?
Join our upcoming webinar! We’ll walk through how to set them up — step by step, no jargon. Yes, it's on January 21, 2026 ... which is short notice, right?
But if you can’t make it live? Communications: Talking
Respectfully asking about task completion
Asking a colleague whether a task has been completed can be sensitive, especially when deadlines are looming, right? Here are some ideas you can use to be respectful and collaborative.
Start by assuming positive intent. Most people want to meet expectations, and beginning from that place helps prevent defensiveness.
1.Frame your question as a request for information rather than an accusation.
For example, “I’m checking in on the status so I can coordinate the next steps” sounds far more respectful than “Is this done yet?”
2.Tone and timing are critical. Whenever possible, ask privately and use calm, neutral language.
Avoid words that imply frustration or judgment, such as “still” or “finally.” A steady, professional tone signals partnership rather than pressure.
3.Providing context also helps. Briefly explain why the task matters or how it connects to a deadline or shared goal. When colleagues understand the bigger picture, they are more likely to respond openly and productively.
If the task is not complete, shift the conversation toward solutions. Ask what support is needed or whether timelines should be adjusted.
Respectful communication builds trust, encourages accountability, and strengthens working relationships.
