I am happy to announce the next event in the 2025-26 Oregon State University Libraries & Press Speaker Series:

Panel: Student employment
Lucinda Amerman, Dominic Annen, McKenzie Heryford, Jessica Layton, and Robin Weis

Current supervisors of student employees at Valley Library discuss the challenges and joys of this work.

Bios:

Lucinda Amerman joined OSULP in 2018, starting in LEAD before moving to Admin. She provides support to library student employee supervisors as the Student Employment Coordinator.

Dominic Annen started at OSULP in 2021, beginning as the evening student supervisor in Circulation, eventually moving to mornings and is now the daytime student supervisor for desk students at the B&I desk.

McKenzie Heryford started at OSU Libraries as a student worker at the information desk in LEAD. In her work at OSU Extension and OSU Libraries, McKenzie has trained a dozen student employees on technical taskwork, including remediating scanned textbook files and completing audits of web content for accessibility compliance. McKenzie now supervises 10 of LEAD’s student employees, and actively trains and mentors all students at the Borrowing and Information desk.

Jessicca Layton began her library career as a student employee in the old library at Western Oregon State College. She was working there shortly after the Orbis Consortium was formed and helped process some of the first Summit requests. After a few other life adventures including employment with a bakery and a secondhand bookseller, she began working for the Valley Library in 2003. She’s been in a leadership role with student employees ever since.

Robin Weis began work at Valley Library as a student employee. He joined the library as staff in 2023 as a Public Information Representative 1. He works with a team of student employees to create promotional materials for OSULP.
