We use them for some orders following the demise of B&T. We used Amazon
more at the end of 2025 when Ingram took 4 weeks to ship orders. The
discounts on new books from major publishers are generally 45% with free
shipping, however, their invoicing requires more staff time than any other
vendor because of their shipping and reconciliation method. If you send
them a large order, it arrives in about a dozen small boxes each invoiced
separately, requiring more staff time to reconcile orders. Invoices must be
downloaded from the Amazon website. Their invoices are net 30 days. IDK if
they charge extra for late payments. We paid by check for a while. You can
bank transfer to them, but Amazon is the last place I want accessing the
library checking account. We were 4 weeks late on one invoice (thanks to
USPS) but were not charged a late fee. As a business customer, you can
charge your orders to a credit card instead of using a 30-day account.
However, we discovered that the card is debited for the entire purchase at
the time of ordering regardless of the ship date, which affected our credit
limit.
Amazon's customer service isn't great, but neither is Ingram's. Returns are
easier with Amazon than Ingram and they don't balk at taking back books for
any reason. There's always Brodart, but they are not accepting new
customers until at least this fall.
