Tuesday, June 9, 1:00 – 1:45p PT
Every day, people turn to libraries for help with urgent issues – including housing, family, immigration, and more. These issues often involve legal needs, but finding the right legal support can be challenging. Oregon Law Help<https://oregonlawhelp.org/> is a new tool designed to make that work easier.
Created by Oregon courts, legal aid providers, and the Oregon State Bar, Oregon Law Help<https://oregonlawhelp.org/> is a free, interactive website that has step-by-step guides, referrals to free and low-cost legal help, legal forms and other helpful resources. Available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Simplified Chinese, the site makes it easy to find clear, reliable legal information to share with patrons.
Hosted by the Oregon State Bar, this 45-minute webinar will help library staff use Oregon Law Help confidently and effectively. It will include:
· Tips for navigating Oregon Law Help and sharing relevant resources.
· Strategies for integrating Oregon Law Help into everyday library services.
· Examples of how to use Oregon Law Help to respond to patron questions.
· Opportunities to ask questions during a live Q&A.
Libraries play a vital role in connecting people to information and services in their communities. Oregon Law Help is a tool you can rely on to support and strengthen the work you’re already doing. Register here.<https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/sDLR0X7yRbmc5I3YHjzY1Q> A recording will be made available in the Oregon Library Staff academy a few days after the live webinar.
AT YOUR LEISURE:
WATCH: Signage: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly<https://my.nicheacademy.com/oregonstaff/course/92047> (PCI Webinar / Oregon Library Staff Academy)
Note: Oregon library staff and volunteers can request access to the Oregon Library Staff Academy by using this form<https://www.cognitoforms.com/StateLibraryOfOregon/RequestAccessToContinuingEducationResources> and choosing the option for the Oregon Library Staff Academy.
Popular with Oregon library workers! Customer service and library signage go hand in hand. How do patrons see your library’s signage and does it address appropriate customer needs? This recording will look critically at many types of library signs and review the positive and negative aspects of library signage. We will also address how to conduct a signage audit and the importance of library branding. This session also addresses customer service issues as they relate to signage. Online resources will be provided and there will be opportunities for Q&A and discussion.
ONLINE CONFERENCES
Tuesday and Wednesday, July 14 and 15, 7:30a – 1:30p PT, Reimagining Information Literacy: A National Forum<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/> (New Jersey State Library and Institute of Museum and Library Services).
Registration is now open<https://www.edgereg.net/er/Registration/StepRegInfo.jsp?ActivityID=44112&StepNumber=1&v=ODc0N2FhZDYtNzZiYi00MjcwLTk2OWItNWI3YWNjY2QwYjkx>, sessions<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/agenda/> will be recorded!
Reimagining Information Literacy is an opportunity for librarians, educators, and researchers to gather to reflect on the importance of information literacy. Variously understood as digital, visual, media, textual, and/or technological literacy, this forum approaches information literacy as an umbrella that is inclusive of all types. The need for a high degree of information literacy spans the continuum of life – from the time a child “reads” a cereal box at the breakfast table, to an elder’s decision-making around medical treatment, information is a part of daily life. With the advent of widespread artificial intelligence tools, it is also a time of reimagination. [More information<https://reimaginingliteracy.cmpinc.net/>]
