Please join us for this exceptional 4-day introductory course in play therapy. This training is perfect for the beginning play therapist and/or someone who is working toward their Registered Play Therapist credential, as many of the required components will be included. The course is set up as a 4-day consecutive training for graduate level students, and has been approved as a 3 credit graduate level class through Portland State University (PSU). Professionals can also take the course for CEU's, 30 APT credits are approved and 30 NASW CEU credits are pending. Professionals may register for any or all of the 4 days. Portland State students have to attend all 4 days to get the 3 graduate level credits.

Dawn Williamson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. Currently, Dawn has a private practice, works at the Linfield College Counseling Department, is an Adjunct Professor at PSU Master's in Social Work Program, and teaches in the Trauma Informed Services Program at PSU. Dawn also has completed several certificate programs, such as: Post Graduate Certificate in Adoption Therapy from PSU, Animal Assisted Therapy from the University of Denver, Counseling with Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Western Oregon University, and Psychological Trauma Treatment from the University of Washington. Dawn is passionate about play therapy and teaching, and very excited to teach this extensive beginning play therapy course.

Course Outline:
Day One, February 8th:
Introduction, experiential learning and the parallel process, what is play?, play definitions, history of play, review of child development, developmentally appropriate play, play activities, history of play therapy,
prominent historical figures within the field of play therapy, current theorists, play therapy toys, play therapy rooms, experiential play activities.

Day Two, February 9th:
Theoretical foundation, Child Centered Play Therapy, Psychoanalytic Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy, Developmental Play Therapy, case studies and examples, play therapy techniques and experiential learning. Homework assignment: Videotape play sessions and assigned reading packet.

Day Three, February 10th:
Theoretical foundation continued, Jungian Play Therapy, Gestalt Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, case studies, play therapy techniques and experiential learning, review homework assignment.

Day Four, February 15th:
Cultural considerations, making play therapy rooms inclusive and multi-cultural, working with children of differing abilities, ethical considerations, videotaped play therapy sessions, Association for Play Therapy and becoming a Registered Play Therapist.
