The Legislature convened January 14 in Salem and will probably be active until June 30. There are several bills moving through the legislative process that affect LPCs, LMFTs, and registered interns. Below is a brief summary of the bills. None have made it through the full legislative process.

COPACT sponsored:
SB 491 Allowing LPCs and LMFTs to serve 14 year olds and older without parental consent.
HB 2768 Changing the definitions of professional counselor and marriage and family therapy and giving the Board the authority to set how long LMFT internships must be to make the requirement consistent with LPCs.

Other bills
HB 5515 Board budget
SB 302 Moving 9 health licensing boards (including this one) to the Oregon Health Licensing Agency
HB 2737 Requires Oregon Health Authority to establish standards and procedures to certify specified mental health providers so they qualify for insurance reimbursement.

The legislative website address is: http://www.leg.state.or.us/ You can go there and search for bills, find out what the legislative committees are doing, see committee agendas, find your legislator, etc.
