This intensive workshop focuses on an evidence-based intervention known as the Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA) that has proven successful in work with Latino youth affected by drugs and alcohol. The follow-up program called Assertive Continuing Care (ACC) will also be reviewed in detail, along with specific challenges confronted by Latino youth and their families experiencing alcohol and drug problems. $100 by 5/22, $120 after, includes 6 CEUs. $40 students. Part 1: Monday-Tuesday, June 23-24, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Part 2: Thursday-Friday, June 26-27, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Digging In part 1 will prepare teachers to use school gardens as a learning environment while integrating food and garden lessons into their classroom curriculum. Part 2 will go into greater depth exploring the specific use of school gardens and urban agriculture to enrich classroom learning. Each course can be taken for 1 semester hour of continuing education credit ($350) or for noncredit ($250) which includes 15 CEUs or PDUs.

Seeking Safety is the most widely used integrated treatment for PTSD and addictions in the world. This present-focused therapy helps people attain safety from trauma, PTSD, substance abuse, problem gambling or other addictive behaviors. This class will prepare counselors to read the Seeking Safety manual and begin using this treatment in their practice. $100, includes 7 CEUs. $40 students. Are there issues regarding access to healthy natural spaces in our community? How can we determine needs and solutions? This workshop will review some of the latest findings regarding the health benefits of green spaces and near-by nature and how these benefits are unevenly distributed in our community. We will discuss ways to address these disparities in terms of grassroots activities, teaching, therapeutic work, and policy change. $100 by 6/12, $120 after, includes 7 CEUs. The conference theme this year is Embracing Transformation in Addictions Treatment. Session topics include: trauma, new ASAM criteria, men and addiction, shame and stigma, Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), gambling, ethics, sexual health in recovery, clinical supervision, mindfulness-based stress reduction, helping our veterans, gangs and addiction, motivational interviewing, medication assisted treatment, and more. At these times the invitation to “tell me your story” can be a critical encouragement in the healing process.
