Dear Colleagues:

Please consider responding to our counterpart agency in Texas to support their exploration of an alternative exam pathway to licensure for psychologists.

The Texas Legislature has directed the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council to explore the possibility of creating a new, nationally-available licensure examination for the practice of psychology. If created, such an examination would offer an additional pathway to licensure, allowing candidates to choose between the new exam and the current examination, the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP).

In its exploration of a potential new exam, the Council has created a survey to invite feedback and input from the broader U.S. and Canadian psychology community. We recognize the impacts of a licensure exam stretches beyond the regulatory licensing boards to the clinical programs and students preparing for the exam, as well as the general psychology workforce that will supervise and work alongside newly licensed psychologists. Accordingly, we invite you to both participate in the survey and to share this link widely with your colleagues and psychological organizations.

This survey is designed to solicit input about the benefits and risks of creating a new licensure exam, as well as feedback about the potential content, structure, and delivery of such an exam. It also invites you to indicate if you would like to participate in the future toward the development of a new exam. The survey will remain open until through November 2025. Please direct any questions to examproject at bhec.texas.gov<mailto:examproject at bhec.texas.gov>.
