This year, the ELPA is administered as part of the OAKS Online system, and on January 4, 2010, AIR launched an ELPA practice test available at: http://www.oaks.k12.or.us/.  Districts can access the practice test either through the OAKS secure browser or through the Mozilla Firefox web browser.    Please note: The ELPA practice test, along with all other OAKS practice tests, does not run on Internet Explorer.

Many students have been able to successfully access this test, but some districts have reported difficulties.  The districts that have experience difficulties accessing the test have reported the following:  when they log into the ELPA Practice Test using the Secure Browser, they see only a white screen on their first page and are unable to proceed.    AIR has investigated the issues and it appears that the district's limited-access student accounts are preventing the Secure Browser from writing an important registry key on the Windows registry.   When the Secure Browser is unable to write the registry key, the Java bundled with the Secure Browser will not function and a white screen, rather than the ELPA Sound Check screen, is presented to the user.  The location on the Windows registry to which the Secure Browser needs to write is typically unsecured for non-administrative users and administrative users alike, except when the ability has been explicitly disabled by a system administrator.  If you are experiencing these difficulties, please contact your Regional ESD Partner and a representative of ODE or AIR will be in contact to help ensure you have access.
