ODFW stocks lunker trout in Willamette Valley lakes

CLACKAMAS - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife stocked
broodstock trout larger than 10 pounds in five Willamette Valley water
bodies recently and plans to stock the same areas next month.

ODFW stocked 75 rainbow trout in Walter Wirth Lake and 65 rainbow trout
in Walling Pond Thursday. The trout weighed about 12 pounds each. These
fish were raised at Roaring River as broodstock for ODFW's trout
stocking program.

In late November, ODFW stocked lunker-sized fish in Huddleston Pond in
Willamina, Sheridan Pond in Sheridan, and Junction City Pond in Junction
City.

"These fish provide a great winter angling opportunity. They're
really nice fish," said Hal Boldt, fish stocking coordinator for
ODFW's Northwest Region. "Make sure you have fishing line with
some strength."

ODFW plans to stock Eastern brook trout broodstock in the Junction City
Pond this week. Additional rainbow trout broodstock will be stocked in
the other four water bodies after Jan. 1. E.E. Wilson Pond will receive
Eastern brook trout broodstock in January in preparation for its Feb. 1
opener.

Locations of each water body:

- E.E. Wilson Pond: Located at ODFW's E.E. Wilson Wildlife Management
Area off Highway 99W near Camp Adair.

- Huddleston Pond: Located in the city limits of Willamina in Hampton
Park, near the intersection of highways 18 and 22.

- Junction City Pond: Located three miles south of Junction City on the
west side of Highway 99.

- Sheridan Pond: Located in Sheridan Wetlands Park, between the Federal
Correctional Facility and State Route 18.

- Walling Pond: Located within the Salem city limits west of Interstate
5.

- Walter Wirth Lake: Located on the eastern edge of Salem in Cascade
Gateway Park.
